This question's true answer lies in a bigger discussion about your budget and organizational structure, unfortunately. You could go a BYOD route, or these Macs users will just have to settle on using a phone/tablet for email. Plus the official Remote Desktop app will fall under the same OS version pitfall, so you'd have to bank of some 3rd party app even if you went down this road. You could have a Remote Desktop session host serve up a browser, but if you don't have money for new machines, I doubt there will be money for a server, RDS CALs, etc. ![]() Even if everything installed, I'd question the end result's ability to properly render the OotW page. I don't know their minimum OS requirements off hand. Try Wine/PlayOnMac or something to run the Windows binaries for Firefox or Opera. I can't imagine they'll have anything higher than a mechanical drive with a decade of life under its belt, a Core 2 Duo, and 2-4GB RAM, 8 if you're lucky. Old Virtualbox builds may support Mountain Lion still, and you may be able to install Win7/8.1/10, but if the machines are old enough to not support anything beyond Mountain Lion, they're going to be dog slow with any virtualization. Aside from the browser situation as you mentioned: If you can't get past Mountain Lion, I don't see a really good solution no matter how you cut it. Latest Firefox (v68) only needs a minimum of Mavericks. If it's possible to get to at least Mavericks, that's your best bet for now. What exact devices are you referencing? It's been a long time since I've dealt with these old version of OS X, but I can't recall if Mountain Lion was actually a dead stop for any devices. Most users are running Exchange Online Plan 2, some are running E3. You can guess how that went, given we have less than 200 users.ĮDIT: Forgot to mention, this is an Office365 Exchange Online tenant. We did already check with Microsoft to see if it was possible for a delay/exception for our tenant. We're loathe to upgrade all our Macs' OSes as we have quite a few considerations application-wise we'd need to address in a very short period of time, and we're about to upgrade any way! We've been unable to upgrade our Macs for years due to budgetary reasons, and we had literally *just* started a refresh project when we got the Admin center advisory about a month ago. Second - if not, is anyone aware of some kind of virtualization platform that a 10.8.5 Mac can run that will enable virtualization of Win7 and Chrome? However, in Windows 7, you can run the newest version of Chrome, so an idea we had is to virtualize Win7 & Chrome for our users.įirst - does anyone know of any alternative options for running latest Chrome/Firefox or perhaps another browser that OOTW will continue to support that will run on Mac OS 10.8.5 that is stable & enterprise-friendly? Similar issue with Firefox, and it's even worse for Safari. The maximum version of Chrome that will run on 10.8.5 is Chrome 49, which is not a supported browser for OOTW. As many of you are probably aware, Microsoft is disabling the "Old" Outlook experience, which unfortunately is the only compatible OOTW experience for users of an older Mac OS.
